Definition 3s5l24
The limitation on the number of raises in a limit game. Usually a bet and either 3 or 4 raises is permitted. The player making the last raise is said to "cap" the pot. In live limit hold ’em, often the cap is lifted when the players are heads up, allowing the players to continue raising until one is all-in.
Example 55fm
Hero is in the cut-off with pocket aces in a California casino which permits 3 raises in a round. A player in middle position raises, and the player to Hero's right re-raises. Hero 4-bets, or caps, the pot pre-flop with his pocket aces.
